"That one guy that makes you melt all over when you look at him.  That one guy that you can't get out your mind and that thinking of the times you are apart makes your body ache.   The guy that may have different opinions than you but would respect you and all that you stand for.  The guy that makes you forget about the past and the future when you see him and all you can think about is the moment and how wonderful it is.  And naturally he would feel the same about me."

I'm actually listening to "The Surrey With the Fringe On Top" right now, and singing along merrily and as loud as possible.....and I'm loving every minute of it.  I think this makes me the coolest college student in the world.

My grandpa was laid to rest one year ago today.  It’s absolutely incredible to think that it has been a year; things have been different at my grandma’s home since this day a year ago.  Life as you know it can really change so suddenly.  We only knew Grandpa had cancer seven months before we lost him.  He has been the closest family member I have lost, and it’s hard to know how to think about it even today.  I’m scared that I might forget what he sounded like, how full of life he was, and I’m scared I might forget the memories....like those nights of playing Boggle with Grandma and Jaime when we were so young…and he would come running in trying to make us all laugh.  He was so kindhearted, and deeply in love with my Grandma….they were the loves of each others’ lives, and only got to spend 23 years together, they should have had 20 more.  I wish he could be here now to see Jaime get married, and to see his great grandchildren…..he missed out on the birth of his first great grandchild by only a few months…

I want to sit here and remember the good times, without tears, but that is near impossible.  But I’m lucky to be surrounded everyday on campus with wonderful memories of my Grandpa; the kind of man he was, and the kind of work he did.  He worked with concrete and he hands literally helped build OSU.  Yes we have photographs of Grandpa Browning working on Browning Amphitheater…and I will always remember the moment I ran into him on campus working outside Hitchcock Hall during my freshman orientation.  I have never walked by the building since without thinking about him.

So to my Grandpa today I want to say thank you, for having the kind of incredible heart that is difficult to find in this world.  You fell in love with Grandma, who had a family in need of someone like you.  My mother and her sisters’ gained a real father, and my sister and I were too lucky to receive the gift of a Grandpa like you, just before we came into this world, to fill a space in out hearts that would have remained much too empty without you.

So today I was sitting in my stats recitation and my T.A. was talking with a student who every five minutes kept getting us completely off topic.  Not that I care about stats all that much or anything...I just don't care about discolored fish...... So me and this guy sitting next to me shared a few smart comments with each other about what the other student was saying.  At that moment, my TA said:

"Amanda, do you have something you would like to share with the rest of the class?"

I almost lost it....I was in third grade all over again...except I never got to be that kid who got yelled at.  But now I am.
